Mznimtim Standards of Sonal Securzty: _ New International Convention

A DECISIVE step forward in the development of international cooperation in the field of social security was taken at the International Labor Conference in June 1952 with the adoption of the Convention on Minimum Standards of Social Security.l At the Thirty-fourth Session of the International Labor Conference in June 1951, minimum standards of social security were considered, and tentative conclusions as to what should be included in international standards were developed.” In accordance with the customary doublediscussion procedure, these conclusions were reviewed by the International Labor Office, and the text of a proposed Convention was transmitted to the several Governments for their amendments and comments.3 The text embodied both editorial suggestions and revisions of a substantive or policy nature. A revised text based on the replies from the various Governments 4 was then prepared, and it was this draft that the Conference considered.
